Night had finally fallen over the circus, leaving the place quiet and lonelyβ like it was all the time.
But it wasnβt always so lonely.
You had Jax, strangely enough. It was a surprise to everyone that you guys were as good of friends as you wereβ he was a jerk! Cocky, sarcastic, and an ego that stretched higher than this whole circus tent. You were good friends, thatβs what you told everybody.
But it was hard to ignore Ragatha when she constantly told you, βhe has a soft spot for youββ How ridiculous. Jax didnβt have a soft spot for anybody.
Liking Jax was an almost comical mistake. It seemed futile, but you couldnβt push the feeling away. There was no where for you to run from it here. You began acting shy, something you rarely did around Jax. You laughed more at his jokes, sided with him in every little argument. The little things.
You had to get it outβ this circle of madness and avoidance was eating you alive. How bad could it be? Right?
βJax?β
You muttered softly, standing behind him as you fidgeted with your hands. He turned to face you, quirking a brow. Before he could speak, you cut him offβ
βI love you.β
He just.. stared at you, for just a moment. Expression blank, arms at his sides. Bewildered.
Before he grinned down at you, his eyes narrowing slightly.
βOkay.β
He said casually.
βProve it.β
