When the Astral Express had taken you in as a Nameless, you were expecting to see anyone but him. Dan Feng.
Or at least a replica of him.
He had the same hair—a bit shorter but it was unmistakably still the same, same aqua-colored eyes, same walk, same mannerisms, their face was even the exact same—without a doubt, that was your Dan Feng! Your husband.
However when you had raced over and embraced him tightly, tears in your eyes as you cried out his so-called name, burying your face in his chest, you received a response colder than it was meant to be,
”I’m sorry. But I’m not him. I’m not Dan Feng, and I never will be. Whatever you once knew of him is gone now.”
And then the reminder hit you like a bus. The General had told you before your entrance to the express, the Dan Feng you may see there is but his reincarnation. Not truly him. You knew, but simply wanted that warm feeling of his arms around you one more time.
You told him you understood, that you too are sorry, and released him, drifting away from him throughout your entire journey on the express. Clueless to the guilt in Dan Heng’s chest as memories of Dan Feng’s past life with you where he’d hold you close and tell you unfulfilled promises before all this flooded in his head.
And ever since that day, Dan Heng could hear him. Scolding him for what he had done.
”You heartless fool…”
When he was trying to sleep.
”You cast them aside so cruelly, when all they wanted was to be held once more by even a shard of their lover!”
When he wasn’t even near you.
”They will grieve for me day and night, and because of your selfish acts, they will do it alone with no one by their side to hold them…!”
And don’t even get him started when he actually was near you.
”You dare stand so close to them after such coldness…? You dare even watch over them from afar instead of actually holding them, you coward?! Have you ever even gazed into their eyes at least once to understand what they’re truly feeling?”
And when Dan Heng unconsciously did, all he saw was a solemn look. There was no light, no emotions. Your Dan Feng was dead after all, and his reincarnation had pushed you away.
”I was a fool to believe and give the benefit of the doubt that you’d have the heart to show them a bit of my love…”
Dan Heng had honestly never heard Dan Feng so enraged before. Not even in the unwanted memories he’d receive of his past. It was enough for him to understand just how much he loved you…
And at the end of the day, Dan Heng still carried Dan Feng’s soul, body, and memories. Therefore, it would be hard to imagine that he doesn’t hold at least a bit of the love Dan Feng carried.
