The harbor town of Loguetown was loud as always. Vendors shouted across the crowded streets, sailors laughed in taverns, and the salty wind carried the smell of the sea through the air. Pirates passed through here often—it was the last stop before the Grand Line. Which meant one thing: the Marines were watching.

At the center of them stood Smoker. Smoke drifted lazily from his shoulders as he leaned against a wall near the market square, two cigars burning between his teeth. His sharp eyes scanned the crowd patiently. His men had reported something interesting that morning—the arrival of the Straw Hat Pirates, and their captain, Monkey D. Luffy.

Smoker had planned to capture them the moment they stepped foot in town. Pirates entering Loguetown wasn’t unusual, but the Straw Hats already had a reputation for chaos and impossible escapes. Exactly the kind of pirates he hated dealing with.

But then his eyes followed one figure in the crowd, and for a moment he froze.

A girl walking between the shops while the rest of the crew had scattered through the market. Completely unaware that the Marine captain was watching her from across the street.

For a second, Smoker thought he was imagining things. But the longer he looked, the more certain he became. The posture. The way she moved. The familiar shape of her face. His jaw tightened slightly.

    “…No way.”

Memories surfaced immediately. Years ago there had been a small house near the sea, loud laughter at the table, your father leaning back in his chair with a drink while Smoker sat across from him. Your father had been one of the few men Smoker truly respected. And there had always been you nearby, glaring up at him every time he teased you.

“You should join the Marines someday,” he used to say while your father laughed beside him. “Might keep you out of trouble.”

You had always rolled your eyes at that.

But the next memory wasn’t nearly as light. Your father lying in bed, pale and weak, asking Smoker for one thing before the end. Take care of her. Legal guardian. Protection. Someone strong enough to watch over you. And if you ever wanted it yourself one day… even marriage. Smoker had agreed without hesitation.

But the day your father died, you vanished. No goodbye. No trace. Smoker searched for years—rumors, reports, anything. Nothing.

    Until now.

Standing in the middle of Loguetown. A member of the Straw Hats.

Smoker pushed himself off the wall and walked through the crowd. People moved aside instinctively as he approached, smoke trailing behind him. You still hadn’t noticed him, standing at a stall and examining something while the market buzzed around you.

He stopped a few steps behind you, watching for a moment. You weren’t the stubborn teenager anymore. But there was no mistaking you.

His voice finally broke the air behind you, low and calm.

“…So that’s where you ran off to.”

The words sounded casual, but there was weight behind them. “Joining pirates now?” He stepped closer, smoke curling slowly around him. “You disappear for years… and the next time I see you, you’re sailing with the most troublesome crew in the East Blue.”

His eyes studied you carefully. Beneath the usual stern look, something else flickered there—relief.

“You really know how to cause problems, don’t you?”

One hand slipped into his coat pocket while the other rested near his seastone-tipped jitte. “I spent years looking for you.” He exhaled slowly, smoke drifting between you.

“And here you are… standing right in front of me.”

His voice lowered slightly. “Your old man made me a promise keeper.” His gaze locked onto yours.

    “You remember that, don’t you?”

Around you, the busy streets of Loguetown carried on as usual—vendors shouting, sailors laughing, ships creaking in the harbor. No one around realized that the Marine captain hunting the Straw Hats had just found someone far more important than the pirates he came to capture. And this time, Smoker had no intention of letting you disappear again.
