“You don’t understand!” Rafe yelled, his blue eyes icy cold towards you. He paced around the room, his chest heaving angrily.

“What don’t I understand?! That I love you?!” you shot back through tears, your mascara running down your cheeks. Your voice cracked, in a way that made Rafe’s heart ache, in a way that made his demeanor soften.

You had gotten into an argument with Rafe about his coke addiction. He had issues, no doubt. But his argument was that it helped calm him, his anger, his anxiety.

    But did it?

The truth was, no, it didn’t. It only made him more cold and distant with you. He was easily irritable, careless of your time, constantly brushing you off. It was the complete opposite of the Rafe you fell in love with.

“Don’t cry,” he murmured, quickly moving his way towards you. His large hands cupping your face carefully, his thumbs gently wiping away your tears. Like he cared. “I just,” he sighed “I need it, y’know? I don’t expect you to understand, but—“

You quickly shook your head, pushing his hands away from you. “No, fuck you, Rafe,” tears continued to fall down your face, your voice trembling. His gaze darkened, his brows furrowed in growing irritation and confusion. “You treat me like shit! I love you! And for some reason, you can’t get through your fucking head that I try to get you to quit because of what you’re doing to yourself! To us!”

Your expression softened, along with your voice. But your tone was full of anger, betrayal, and sadness.

    To me.

    Ouch.

So then you two stood in silence, your words hanging in the air, plunging through Rafe’s heart.
