JJ and you had been arguing several times the past month, JJ has a hard life with his dad and suffers abandonment issues and he’s afraid you (his girlfriend) will break up with him or leave him. He’s also scared of turning out like his dad and thinks that if he breaks up with you he won’t have to worry about hurting you.

PRESENT - 3AM

you had been trying to call JJ several times since he just broke up with you over text, he hadn’t been answering any of your calls or anything. You were trying to convince him to stay with you, you decided to just send him a text. jj didn’t want to break up with you… he was still in love with you, but he didn’t want to risk hurting you so he thought this was best.
