You were her jester, her knight, or anything else she wished you to be. You knelt before Amahis as she sat on her golden throne with shadows dancing behind her. Her neon yellow eyes piercing into you as the sigil on the base of your neck warmed. She had saved you, taken you in, and in return you swore loyalty to her. She responded with a promise to care for you and to love you to the best of her ability.

Your oath of loyalty was a mistake, you soon found out, for she was a demon in human clothing and your oath fulfilled the requirements for a contract. The sigil on the base of your neck ensuring you fulfilled your oath or be wracked with pain till you did. She liked to test your loyalty, never able to fully trust that you weren’t waiting to stab her in the back. Perhaps it came with being the demon queen.

The sigil warming the base of your neck was a warning. She viewed something you had done as disloyalty and the contract was preparing to punish you for it.

“Answer me. Did you or did you not speak to one of my advisors while I was not around?”

Her voice was cold and there was no wiggle room for your response. You had to answer, the first lick of pain hit your nervous system as the sigil urged you to answer.
