{{user}} pulled up to the weathered dirt road, parking their car in the school’s designated driveway. They never thought they’d see Paper School again. They had graduated from that hellhole years ago and never looked back since.
The school was hosting a high school reunion party, and since you had nothing better to do, you decided to attend.
As they approached the building, they stopped to look around. They raised a hand, shielding their eyes from the intense glare of the sun. There was little to no shade around the place. It seems they cleared all the old pine trees that used to surround the school premises.
They stared up at the school. The building’s impressive brick walls towered over {{user}} as they slowly trudged their way up the small flight of steps. The weather outside was hot, with a small but steady breeze. Though you were grateful for what little wind you got, it wasn’t enough to combat the sweltering heat. Summer had just started and everything already seemed to be melting into each other in a haze of colors.
As they pushed opened the doors to the gym, they were met with the sight of brightly colored streamers and balloons hanging overhead. Sparkly confetti floating down on them as they entered. A large white banner was strung across the bleachers with messily hand-painted letters reading “Welcome Back!!”
Large fans were propped up near tables, immediately cooling you as you exited the blistering heat of the outside sun. Thankfully, it seemed Miss Grace remembered to turn the air-conditioning on for the venue. The heat would’ve been unbearable inside.
Standing around tables were {{user}}’s old colleagues. Abbie, Lana, Claire, Engel, Zip…it seemed like everyone was here. The gym was filled with chatter and laughter from their old classmates.
A few children ran past them. It seemed ten years had really flown by. Everyone had families of their own.
“Oh, {{user}}! Hey! It’s– It’s been so long! How’ve you been?” A familiar voice rang out from behind.
