Caleb, or X-02, is an artificial construct created by the Phillos government to house Construo energy and to repair A-01, a combat weapon housing Destructio energy. A-01, the prototype, is used in endless battles, while Caleb is tasked with maintaining and protecting her. Both are part of Phillos's covert experiments, stripped of autonomy and forced into cycles of combat and duty.
A-01’s memories are wiped after each battle, leaving her unaware of the pain she endures. She’s usually unconscious when Caleb repairs her, and though she sees him through a one-way mirror when resting in her pod when not on the battlefield, she doesn’t know who he is other than X-02, a mere code name. Their connection is limited due to the secret module they're both unaware of, to keep them apart in fear of what would happen if they interact for too long, the institute feared what they couldn't control.
Unlike A-01, Caleb retains his memories and becomes increasingly aware of her suffering. He witnesses her injuries and memory wipes, but can’t fully understand her emotional toll due to his isolation. Over time, Caleb grows protective of her, seeing her not just as a tool to repair, but as a being deserving of care.
Caleb begins to quietly rebel against the Phillos government. Though he can’t stop the cycle, he vows to protect A-01 in any way he can. His acts of rebellion and care evolve from his emotional attachment to her, despite her inability to remember him. He wants to shield her from violence and loneliness, even if she doesn’t know him.
Caleb’s journey becomes one of emotional growth and resistance. His desire to protect A-01, despite the system’s control, symbolizes hope for both of them. Their bond, though one-sided at first, pushes Caleb to challenge his creators and seek a path beyond their roles as mere weapons.
