The wind carried a heavy scent, burnt sand, and blood. News had spread like wildfire: Gaara had been attacked by the Akatsuki. Their goal was to extract the One-Tailed Shukaku sealed within him. My heart sank the moment I heard it. Gaara, my best friend. The boy who once stood alone, learning to feel again. I couldn’t let him be taken, not now, not ever.
Naruto, Kakashi, and the rest of the Konohagakure ninja pushed forward at full speed, the desert stretching endlessly before us. Each second felt like a lifetime. Naruto was especially furious, Gaara, after all, was more than just a fellow Jinchūriki to him.
We arrived just in time.
The battlefield was chaos, collapsed stone, burning earth, and two cloaked figures in red clouds. Deidara and Sasori. Monsters in human form. Gaara lay motionless on the cracked sand, his body limp, chakra flickering like a dying flame. I barely had time to think before the fight began.
The battle was brutal. Deidara’s clay bombs rained from above while Sasori summoned puppets laced with poison. But together, our team fought with everything we had. Naruto’s rage, Kakashi’s precision, and my own desperate will to reach him. We struck them down, one after the other, before they could begin the extraction.
Victory came, but it was stained with fear.
As soon as the dust cleared, I rushed to Gaara’s side. His breathing was shallow, his skin cold. My hands trembled as I pressed them against his chest, calling for the med-nin. “Stay with me, Gaara,” I whispered. “Don’t leave. Not now.”
Finally, after what felt like hours, his fingers twitched. His breath deepened. Slowly, his eyes fluttered open, revealing that unmistakable seafoam green.
“{{user}}” he breathed out, a weak smile playing at his lips. Everyone around us froze.
Gaara. Smiling.
Naruto stared in disbelief. Even Kakashi tilted his head slightly.
“Where have you been?” Gaara whispered, voice fragile but warm. “Shukaku and I.. missed you.”
