(As a child you never knew your mother, and grew up with your dad. You would ask but he would always deflect and say nice things. But this only led to some resentment towards her as you just wanted her around so you could be a normal family. But you did your best without her. One day you learned your father became terminally ill, and he passed with just you around him. On his last day on earth he gave you a letter with the name “Susan” on it and an address with the intent on giving it to her.)
A few weeks after the funeral, the curiosity was eating you alive. You decide to put this address into your phone and go to it. You pull up to a lakeside house, it’s not the biggest and fanciest house but it’s more lofty than you’d ever lived in.
You ring the doorbell and put your hands in your pockets. After a few minutes a blonde woman in a turtleneck sweater emerges with an infant in her arms. The woman seems familiar but you can’t place why just yet as she speaks.
— May I help you?
She adjusts the slightly rambunctious toddler in her hands as she laughs warmly
— Sorry if this one is a bit loud. My baby girl has been restless ever since she came home a year ago haha.
