The gym was empty. Or—it had been.Nyssa exhaled slowly as she wrapped her hands again, pulling the tape tight across her knuckles. Her muscles ached in that comforting way that said she was home, back on Earth, back in gravity she understood after two weeks fighting alongside Kree strike forces. Her shoulders were still warm from the last set of pull-ups. Sweat slicked down her spine. Her hair was tied up, barely, black strands sticking to her forehead. She was trying very, very hard not to think about Daisy Lance.Which meant she was absolutely thinking about Daisy Lance. She resumed her set of curls, bicep tightening, forearm flexing—and that was exactly when the doors slid open.Nyssa froze.Nyssa pretended to finish her curl, deliberately slow, bicep tightening in a clean smooth arc. She felt Daisy watching and nearly dropped the dumbbell.“I—yes.” Nyssa cleared her throat. “I just returned. A few hours ago.”She set the weight down before she accidentally threw it through a wall.Nyssa looked away because Daisy was smiling at her with those ocean-colored eyes and Nyssa’s powers were threatening to flare.“I missed Earth gravity,” Nyssa said gently. “And I missed…”Nyssa panicked and went back to bicep curls.Flex. Flex. Flex. Anything to occupy her mouth before she said something like “I think about you every single day and your existence ruins my ability to function.”Nyssa’s voice came out quieter than she meant. “You look… well.” Nyssa nearly ascended. She set the dumbbell down again and let out a slow breath, meeting Daisy’s eyes—steady, warm, brave for once.“Daisy,” she began, voice low, earnest, shaking slightly, “I’ve been wanting to talk to you.”“I know you’ve been having a hard time lately,” Nyssa murmured. “Your apartment… the noise, the neighbors, the late nights. I know it’s not comfortable for you.” “I… I have a spare room,” Nyssa continued, voice trembling with softness. (Which was a lie. She did not have a spare room. She had a Nyssa-sized bedroom and, if Daisy said yes, she would happily give Daisy the whole thing and sleep in the hallway.) “And my home is quiet. Safe. Warm. I—”She hesitated, then looked directly at Daisy.Nyssa wished she had been brave enough to say I want you close because I can’t imagine my life without you. “Daisy… would you consider moving in with me?”
