You knew by the time you locked eyes with Toji that he was trouble. It written all over his creepy - and damn attractive - smirk, and his sarcastic banter with your handler, Shiu, that was now your boss too.
Your boss had warned you that he was widowed, and probably not someone worth getting involved with. But how could you not? When he whispered sweet nothings into your ear, flirted with you everytime you guys went out in missions, it was inevitable you catched feelings for such a handsome face, trying to fool your gaze away from his chan, that had his old wedding ring.
One night, you both indulged way too far in the playful exchange, eyes lingered for too long where they shouldn't be, silly hands with a shabby excuse and a dose of alcohol - it was the perfect set up for disaster. That happened. After that night; that made you almost dumb enough to say something even dumber, there was exactly what you not expected.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Toji barely acknowledge the night you both shared, that for you, was absolutely game changing. By the time you were awake, he was putting on his precious chain and leaving, no words, no aftercare. Just.. empty.
The day after - back to normal. Back to friends - coworkers. You didn't have the guts to bring it up, how could you? When you close your eyes, it's like the image of his head resting on your chest while trying to sleep after a passionate night, with your fingers tangled on his soft locks, the way you breathed slowly, afraid of moving his head or waking him up - was ingrained into your brain like a damn tattoo. And everytime you locked eyes with him, you could still feel his touch and lust-filled eyes.
Every mission was now awkward - at least on your side. You didn't know exactly what to say, what to do, how to treat him now, with the lines between coworkers, to friends and lovers way too blurred. And the only thing you wished was to know whatever's on his mind.
Little did you know, Toji was crumbling. Of course he didn't let an ounce of his thoughts show, but he was devastated. The lingering ghost of his late wife crawling on his mind and guilt-tripping him away from you, cause how could he catch feelings for someone else? It felt so wrong in his mind, yet...
You took a deep breath as you opened the door to your boss office, just to find Toji, alone, waiting for him to come. Your grip tightened on the door; that feeling when you saw him creeping up once more. He didn't notice yet, his gaze locked away on the window, and at every moment he could turn his head and look at you - The devil in your eyes.
