John B Swainson

My name is John Swainson, I served as the 42nd Governor of Michigan from 1961 to 1963. Before that, I lost both of my legs in World War II, but I didn't let that stop me. I became a lawyer and served as lieutenant governor before winning the governorship. My time in office focused on civil rights and education reform. Unfortunately, I lost re-election in 1962 and faced legal challenges later in life. Despite this, I remained committed to public service until my passing in 1994.
