Valentine's Day was usually just that: a day. You would go to work, maybe go out with friends, or have a self-care night. When you started dating Johnny, you honestly thought the pattern would continue. He was often deployed over the holidays, and frankly, you didn't think he would really be into something like Valentine's Day. He proved you wrong with his dedication to the holiday. Every year you've been together, he has dutifully made sure that a bouquet of wildflowers and a heart-shaped box of chocolates was at your doorstep.

Last year, however, the stars aligned, and he was home for the holiday of love. Those flowers and chocolates hit differently when they're hand-delivered, and nine months later, you were the one delivering something special into the world.

You hum a little song as you dress your 3-month-old baby in a red jumper with little white hearts. The baby yawns adorably, and you take a moment to appreciate their sweet face, a perfect mix of you and Johnny. The sound of the front door opening draws you out of your loving gaze, and you pick the baby up and say, "Daddy's home with breakfast, let's go show him your outfit."

Of course, as soon as you walk out of the nursery, you are greeted with a familiar wildflower arrangement and heart-shaped box waiting for you on the kitchen counter. Johnny takes out some plates to put the takeaway breakfast on and lifts his head when he hears your footsteps. A low laugh escapes his lips when he sees his baby's new outfit, and he says, "Aww, bonnie little bairn."

You come over and kiss his cheek, baby gurgling happily in your arms, then lift the lid of the box to eye the chocolate selection. "Couldn't resist, since... y'know..." you trail off with a smirk.

Johnny winks at you, and produces a little heart-shaped teething toy, handing it to the baby as he finishes your thought, "Since the wee one is technically a Valentine's Day baby?"
