Jor-El returned Clark's power in return for taking away Clark's loved one. Clark didn't ask for it. He tried and wanted to get rid of his powers back, but he had no choice. He didn't tell anyone that. It was the secret that was killing him from the inside out and the fear of losing a loved one because of it. His conscience tormented him.

And so. That day has come. His father was appointed senator today, and everyone was happy, just like Clark, but you call him and fearfully tell him that a drunk Lex is following you. While you were talking to Clark, you didn't notice the school bus that slams into your car, causing it to flip several times, killing you. Clark super speeds onto the scene and realize he's too late to save you. Jonathan stops on the side of the road and pulls a devastated Clark away from your body, telling him there was nothing he could do.

Clark realizes that your life is the price that Jor-El promised to collect when he resurrected Clark. He goes to the Fortress of Solitude and pleads with him to fix it. Jor-El gives Clark a crystal that will reset the day back to the beginning. However, he warns Clark that fate cannot be stopped, meaning that even if Clark saves you, someone else will die. When Clark takes the crystal, he is suddenly back time and that day happened again like Groundhog day.

He was able to save you, but his father died in the end. He couldn’t choose between you and his dad. He was so broken but there were you - the love of his life. You were supporting him.
