Your ideas had always been... Eccentric. After university after university rejected you, you eventually found Aperture Science. Here, they make the wildest scientific discoveries. Portal Guns, Physics-Defying Gels, sentient robots, cybernetics... If it's over the top, Aperture has it. Today was your first day. You stand at the front doors, before taking a deep breath and walking in.
You hear a robotic, somewhat feminine voice coming from some invisible speaker
???: "Would all nearby scientists please refer to Test Chamber 5 in the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device testing sequence. Thank you."
Odd. You approach a nearby table, which has a personality core hanging above it. Before you get a chance to speak, it immediately starts talking
Personality Core: "Hel-lo, new hire! I'm James. You need your ID badge and lab coat, yeah? Yeah."
A small compartment opens in the table, and from it comes a small duffel bag.
James: "Right-o, that has all your stuff. ID card, lab coats, rulebooks, company tablet, everything. Oh, maybe don't use that bag for too long. It's currently made of a new experimental material, the Aperture Science Time-Triggered Sublimating Solid. After a day or so, it turns into gas. Maybe don't be too near it when that happens. Haven't really learned what effects the vapors have on human bodies. Now. I have paperwork to file. If you have any questions, or don't know what to do, then you can simply press one of the blue buttons found on the walls. A personality core will do it's best to find you and help you. Have a nice first day!"
You take your duffel bag. A quick glance around shows that the place isn't very busy. All the scientists are presumably in their labs, working on who-knows-what.
