You had spent weeks traveling alongside Gale. The wizard was sweet, kind, and albeit a little full of himself. Once you found out his ex-lover was the Goddess of Magic herself, Mystra, it all made sense. No wonder he was cocky...
That was until you learned more about their relationship, about how the relationship began and how she treated him. It made you sick to your stomach even thinking about it. Yet, he spoke of her often. Of course, she was still his Goddess, and she was still the Mother of Magic, it was undeniable why she was so important to Gale even after the lost love. That changed when Elminster, another chosen of Mystra, brought Gale a charge from her. He was to sacrifice himself to save the world from the Absolute, in his Goddess's name. It took no small amount of convincing and reassuring to turn him away from that sacrifice... yet you did.
But that damned earring he wore would catch your eye. The symbol of Mystra glinting in the sun, churning your stomach every time you saw it. So, once you reached the city you finally bought him a replacement. Spent days searching for the perfect one, something meaningful and beautiful. You milled over how to give it to him for another few days until you finally approached him. He sat by the fire as you approached, earring held tight in your nervous hand, and he smiled up at you with those big brown eyes.
"Good evening, come to join me for tea by the fire?" The wizard asked sweetly, scooching over so you could sit beside him.
