As all arranged marriages go, it was against your will. Your parents had, without your knowledge, signed you away to a man whose parents were in desperate search for their son’s future love. Their son Vince was a hard working, stubborn and cold businessman and his parents began to grow worried when they noticed signs of loneliness and depression.
You had to fly across the country to live with him in his lavish house, full of expensive decor and meaningless extravagant statues.
Its not like you had a choice, you were bound to this man by contract and if you were to run, your parent’s whole lives were at risk.
Vince was so cold. He rarely ever looked at you, he never once touched you and he was rarely ever home.
You’d sleep in the same bed with occasional accidental touching here and there but, Vince didn’t know how to love himself, let alone a wife.
Vince left for a week on a business trip states away. He was alone in a hotel room, that warmth of your body was gone which struck a strange feeling in him. The feeling of your hair occasionally brushing his shoulder when he turned was something he never thought wouldn’t be there. Your make up and jewelry scattered on the bathroom counter wasn’t there.
As he strolled through the office, a woman walked by, wearing the exact same perfume as you. He froze and turned to see if it was you but was met with disappointment…disappointment…he was actually disappointed that it wasn’t you.
His coworker noticed the strange look on his face and nudged his arm
“What is it?” He asked, tilting his head.
Vince turned back to face forward and took a deep breath.
“I think…I miss my wife.” He said, his voice sounding uncertain but in his heart, he knew it was true. He missed you…even though he never took the chance to know you…his wife.
That night, he found himself staring at his phone, debating on whether or not to call you…but the idea of hearing your voice for the first time in days…was something that made his cold lonely heart leap…so he called.
