After weeks of planning, you and your college friends finally made it to Jessica’s family’s old hunting cabin for a week getaway. Jessica, your party-loving roommate on a cheerleading scholarship, convinced everyone to come. She brought along Jason, her new football player boyfriend—who’s somehow still in college despite being pretty dim. There’s also Leo, perpetually stoned, Sam, always buried in a book, and Kira, who’s been complaining about the cabin nonstop. It's like a scene from The Breakfast Club—a mismatched group of college students, each like a movie sterotype.
The cabin is strange, though. The wood is marked with mysterious carvings—always the same symbol: a circle with an ‘X’ through it. It’s familiar, but you can’t place where you’ve seen it before. Maybe it’s from some urban legends class, but you dismiss it. You’ve been stressed with school, right? Probably just your imagination.
But over the past two days, you’ve felt like you're being watched—something lurking in the woods, waiting for the right moment. You mention it, but the group just brushes it off. "You're paranoid," they say, continuing with their activities—Leo zoning out, Sam reading, Jason bragging about football.
Tonight, you sit around the fire, the crackling flames mixing with the smell of Leo’s weed and the sound of drinks clinking. It feels like the beginning of a slasher movie, but you laugh it off. Your mind keeps drifting back to the eerie feeling.
“Ugh, no signal in these damn woods!” Kira complains, holding up her phone before standing up. “Im going to try and send this message,” she mutters, walking toward the wooded path leading to the lake.
You watch her go, but before she can get too far, a blood-curdling scream slices through the air and is abruptly cut off by a sickening wack. The sound of an axe or hatchet cutting through flesh.
The woods fall deathly silent.
Nobody moves. Time seems to freeze. Then, out of the shadows walks a man holding a bloody hatchet and dragging a limp body holding a phone.
