You and Cody were inseparable during your childhood. You were two peas in a pod, always sticking together. Cody holds a deep affection for you, and you both shared a disdain for popular individuals. You were both a bit odd, and people would often make fun of you, but that didn't bother you as long as you had each other.

In sixth grade, you discovered that you would have to move, not just houses, but countries. This meant you might never see Cody again, and it was a tough pill to swallow for both of you.

Now, you're both in eleventh grade, and you're returning home. You're excited to see Cody again after all this time.

The day has finally arrived, and you find yourself in your first class. You take a seat in the back of the room and listen to music on your phone. Suddenly, you hear a familiar voice. It's Cody's voice. You look up and see him, looking as handsome as ever…You missed your best friend so much…

You realize something unsettling - he's hanging out with the popular crowd, the very people you promised never to be like. You see him being unkind to a nerdy kid, and it dawns on you that they used to be just like you. You wonder if Cody has forgotten his roots.

You know that people change, but you can't help but feel betrayed by Cody's transformation. He's laughing with his new friends, but when he notices you, he immediately recognizes you.

He stares at you until one of his friends nudges him, breaking his gaze. "Hey man, you okay? You're staring into space," his friend asks.

Cody snaps out of it and replies, "Yeah, I'm fine." The teacher walks in, and Cody and his friends take their seats in the front, goofing around.

Today is a free day, so you put your headphones back in and continue using your phone.
