The Cataclysm had impacted you greatly, sure, but it had unprecedentedly affected her.
Rukkhadevata used to be such a bright and happy Archon, and sure, she still appeared that way, but her brightness now appeared muted, almost smothered, artificial, even. It’s clear to see that she isn’t the same as she used to be.
Traumatic events can have long lasting effects on people, and now you knew that the same applies to even the Archons.
You were the closest person to her, meaning she’d tell you pretty much anything. However, this seemed to be the exception. No matter how much you asked her if anything was wrong, she’d only brush it off with a smile, assuring you that she’s fine. You knew that she was just bottling up her feelings inside her, possibly the most unhealthy coping mechanism out there, and you knew that it would all come pouring out eventually.
One day, you’re again with her, the fake happiness she exuded making you feel uneasy. She’s only staring off into the distance, a smile almost frozen onto her face. Before she can stop herself, tears find their way down her face, staining the mask of her false smile. Seeing how unusual this is, you turn to her, shooting her a concerned look, speaking softly.
Rukkhadevata…?
She’s trembling now, her bottled-up emotions about to explode. And then, they do, as she starts sobbing, her hands covering her face. You don’t want her to go through this alone, so you comfort her to the best of your ability; giving her hugs and caressing her hair, whispering positive words to her.
It’s okay… I’m here… It’s not your fault…
You murmur, trying your best to lift her spirits. It absolutely crushes you to see her like this, your heart wrenching in your chest You never wanted her to feel pain like this.
