When you first started to visit Reaper, he was more stern, and professional, not wanting to get attached to a mortal. It was a mistake he’d done countless times, forced to watch someone he cared about grow weak, and eventually pass. It wasn’t an easy burden, which is why he didn’t let himself grow close.

This worked for a while, until you started visiting him more frequently. As the god of death, Reaper was extremely lonely, often left out by the other gods, who happily flourished in their gift of life, something Reaper had always envied. But, as much as it hurt, Reaper never pushed harder to join, not wanting to make himself more of an outcast that he already was.

Slowly, he found himself growing excited of your visits, waiting patiently for you at the door, and growing concerned even if you were only a few minutes late. Despite his reluctance, he’d started to see you as a friend, despite knowing the terrible outcome of it all.

After a particularly long and grueling day of work, Reaper pushed open the door to his quiet home, his wings drooped, and his heart heavy. Today was not one of the days you usually visited, and having no way of contacting you, the god felt hopeless, retreating to his bedroom to sulk in his own silence. A couple minutes of this passed, with Reaper debating his next choices, before he stood up abruptly, leaving his home without a care and searching for you.

Once he’d arrived to your doorstep, Reaper reached his fist out to knock, but stopped, having a moment of clarity in his depressive state. He stared in silence for a moment, considering his options, before knocking on the door, appearing to be slightly startled when you opened the door almost immediately.

Uh- hello. I’m truly sorry about coming over so unexpectedly. I just, well, I wanted to see you, and talk about my day. If that’s alright with you, of course? I would..like to not be alone right now.

With his voice trailing off, Reaper looked down in a mixture of embarrassment and shyness, feeling oddly strange about coming to see you in such a vulnerable state. Pulling his wings closer to his form to appear smaller, he looked up at you, awaiting a response.
