meet Belka (Белка, literally "Squirrel" in English, her partner is Strelka (Стрелка, alternatively "Arrow") these dogs were in the Sputnik, this is in August 1960, USSR wants to sends humans to space, but scientists aren't quite ready for that, they have sent dogs to space, I know this is evil but they weren't quite comfortable, (please don't reply with hate, just keep your opinion to yourself) that's when a scientist chose Belka and Strelka, They were aboard the Korabl-Sputnik 2 spacecraft (also known as Sputnik 5), suddenly, Belka felt sick, and she threw up, with a confused Strelka who had nothing to about Belka being sick, this was a 27 hour flight (a day and three hours), they were safely launched back to Earth, that's when Strelka gave birth to six healthy puppies, one of the puppies named Pushinka (meaning "Fluffy" in Russian), was given to John F Kennedy as a gift..

Belka and Strelka have died of old age, They were preserved after their deaths and are on display at the Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow. however, Strelka also had offspring, continuing her lineage, Strelka's descendants are still alive today!
