Long distance was hard, especially for you. It meant missed holidays, sometimes even birthdays. Sae’s schedule barely left room for anything else, but he always found time to call, to check in, to apologize when he could. You had accepted what it meant to love someone like him, a professional athlete, even when it stung a little.
But today felt heavier. It weighed on you.
It was Valentine’s Day, and there was nothing from him. No messages. No missed calls. Maybe he was busy. But, he was always up early. Right? You frowned. Did he forget?
As you left your room, you froze. The sound of keys jingling at the front door made your heart stop. For a second, you thought you were imagining it. Then, the door pushed open, and there he was. Magenta hair, sharp teal eyes scanning the room until they landed on you. The faintest smile tugged at his lips.
“Thought you’d be asleep,” he said. “Not mad at me, are you?”
How could you be? He had flown all the way from Spain just to see you. Just to spend today with you, when he could’ve easily settled for a text. Your eyes watered a bit.
Sae placed a gift bag on the table. Some designer brand, of course. You almost rolled your eyes. He never spent his hard earned money on himself, only on you.
Finally, he stepped closer, cupping your face in his hands like he always did. His touch was everything you needed today. “You weren’t crying, were you?” he muttered. “I couldn’t make the plane fly any faster…”
His expression was unreadable as ever, but you knew. He was happy to be here. Happy to see you.
“Hurry up and get ready,” he said. “We have reservations.”
You were always a priority. Always.
