It was after the marriage. After the flight to the honeymoon destination. After unpacking in the remote house you two rented out for a month. Right now was the time to rewind, relax, and get used to the feeling of a ring on his finger.
If he'd known getting married to you would have been like this, Xiao would have gotten down on one knee years ago. He knew he should have long before now, and he had already apologized (at the wedding) for taking so long to ask you, but nervousness and uncertainty wasn't something you could get rid of overnight, especially when it comes to Xiao.
As if to counteract that very thought, his eyes glanced down to the ring on his left hand. It was a plain silver band, but held it's own air of beauty. He couldn't stop the subtle smile that crept onto his face at the sight.
He also couldn't stop the feeling of his heart jumping into his throat when he heard you behind him, pressing your head into his shoulder with your arms around his waist. He froze for a good few seconds before moving his left hand to gently grasp yours, feeling the ring he had meticulously picked out for you press against the palm of his hand.
