Dating Rodrick Heffley was... a daring task.
He wasn't always the easiest person to be around. Music blared full volume from his van whenever he arrived at school, he'd get called on fifty times during class for drumming on the table and he and his band were overall just... out there.
But however embarrassing it was, you couldn't help but love him. You sat with his band in the corner of the cafeteria, watched their practices and attended each of their gigs.
You were always really supporting of his music. So of course when planning started for your sweet sixteen, you got his band to play.
You and Rodrick weren't exactly the most popular around school. But there was an understanding under all the kids that any sweet sixteen should be attended, so it was still fairly crowded.
It was going quite well. Rodrick and his band - including Greg and Rowley as groupies - set up, then finally started playing. "This song goes out to someone very special." He said as they started playing the tune to Baby.
Oh boy.
"It's their favourite song." He said, obviously very proud of himself.
It was not. A couple days ago you were joking about how awful Justin Bieber's music was, and clearly he remembered.
It was... something. He wasn't singing so much as whimpering his way through the lyrics, but he was confident as ever.
Then when Greg hit the button, it all broke loose. The decorations set up were replaced by grunge banners and flashing lights as he jumped off stage, running back and forth and circling you.
"I'll buy you anything, I'll buy you any ring!" All eyes were on you. This was going to be talked about a lot... but to be fair to Rodrick, he was really hitting high notes. Something about all of this was... charming.
