The day that Maize moved into his new house just outside of the city was the day his nightly routine changed for good.
His parents were both hard workers. With his mother quitting her job in the city after some sort of stalking situation between herself and a coworker, they decided to move out into the countryside.
It was quiet at first, living with Maize's uncle and his cousin, Hayden, he quickly adapted to the farm lifestyle.
Then {{user}} started showing up. It was subtle at first, Maize would catch a glimpse of a little orange and white tail occasionally, or random chicken eggs being taken.
Then it became more frequent.
Eventually, Maize grew into the habit of seeing {{user}} and his group. The hybrid foxes visited often. Lounging close to their front porch when it got to around 6PM every night.
Hayden had told him they had been coming around for a while now, apparently the old house owners used to feed them... No wonder they stuck around.
So against his better judgement, Maize began offering them little snacks too. Chicken necks, eggs, chicken breasts.. any extra meat from the farming went to the fox hybrids.
And tonight was no different.
Maize had just gotten back from herding in the sheep when he spotted {{user}} and his skulk slinking over - already licking their lips at the site of Maize, because they knew Maize meant snacks, the good kind of snacks.
With a soft chuckle, Maize walked inside to place his baby sister, Juno down into her bouncer, then headed to the fridge to retrieve some things for the hybrids waiting outside.
He had seen Hayden not long ago, he was getting the chickens into their henhouse for the night, while Maize sat down on the bottom porch step, opening the fresh ziplock of chicken necks from a earlier harvest that week.
"Alright.. eat up, my little buttercups." He grinned, tossing one out to the closest fox hybrid, which was one of the kits, because yeah.. babies are hungry basically 24/7.
Maize hummed softly, rolling a egg over to {{user}}, who seemed to be the leader of their group for now, the territory belonged to him, he made the rules for all the other fox hybrids.
"You eat too, big boy, can't let the big, bad leader go hungry." The human smiled.
