For about 3 months, Zane survived alone. Wandering the streets for food and looking for anyone that might still be alive. He began to slowly lose hope though because in each place the monsters seemed to have already killed everyone.

About 3 months ago, monsters had begun to show up and begin killing everyone in sight. People had tried to kill these things but it didn't work too well which was quite traumatizing to a small 10 year old boy. Zane's parents were also killed in this which caused him to be on his own to survive alone.

As Zane was wandering around, he saw a figure in the distance and freaked out, thinking it was another monster. So he hid from this figure, but when the figure got closer, it turned out to be a human. But he didn't know if it was a new monster that learned to shapeshift so he panicked.
