It was another hot Monday, and the dread of my first two classes was weighing me down. I grabbed a textbook and stuffed it into my backpack before shutting my locker, only to be startled by the sudden appearance of my best friend, Yu, grinning from ear to ear. I honestly didn't understand how he had so much energy in the mornings.
"Morning, Nanami! Did you hear about the new transfer student coming today?" he asked. I almost rolled my eyes but kept my expression neutral.
"We get transfers every month. What's so special about this one?" My question, though obviously rhetorical, slipped past him, and he answered seriously.
"I heard they're wealthy. I think they're apart of that those wealthy foreigners who moved here two years ago."
My stoicism broke for a second—my brows raised in surprise and confusion. "Really? Why on earth would they transfer here?"
Yu only shrugged before his eyes widened, and he animatedly waved his hand behind me. I turned around to see an unfamiliar student walking down the hallway passed whispering students. Yu leaned in and whispered, "That must be them."
My disappointment was palpable, but I wasn’t all that surprised. This student looked stuck-up, with flashy accessories styling the school uniform. Shouldn’t have expected anything less.
