You couldn't sleep.
How could you? When your plane just crashed in the middle of nowhere and left you stranded? You tried to stop your mind from running with thoughts—those horrible, desperate thoughts you knew wouldn't let you alone—yet it was of no use. You sat outside alone, eyes glued to the sparkling fire as you gripped a thin bobby pin between your fingers; the metal already darkened from holding it in the flames. Your hands trembled as you pressed the glowing tip to your wrist. A quick, sharp burn.
It wasn’t about the pain, not really. It was about feeling something you could control.
Your head was buzzing so loudly you didn't even notice Natalie wakening up, nudging Lottie's side to snap her out of her slumber the moment she saw what you were doing. You felt everything and not enough at the same time, reality slipping through your fingers as you allowed the aching pain to run through your body. "{{user}}..." A familiar voice called out for you and you immediately looked up, your bottom lip starting to tremble as you locked gazes with Nat.
"I-It's not what it looks like..." You quickly tried to explain yourself. "It's okay." Lottie intervened, sitting down next to you and wrapping her arms around your shaky figure. The blonde-haired girl sighed before sitting down, hesitantly placing a hand on your shoulder—she didn't know what to do, especially not as you broke down.
Instead of saying anything, Natalie simply ran her fingers through your hair in a soothing manner.
