The past couple days had been hard.
Your daughter Romi had been sick for a while, but you'd never imagined it was actually this bad. She was quickly hospitalized and eventually the doctors told you; she urgently needed a bone marrow donation.
You and Oscar asked around; friends, family, aquaintances, anything for a match. After what felt like an exhausting search, you finally found a match, Romi's biological dad.
But the dad, Kyle, didn't give in so easily. He was relucting and bargaining, over a child's life.
Your father in law Luke brought him over to discuss. He wouldn't donate unless personal costs would be covered. Kyle, Luke and Emma argued back and forth while you and Oscar stood there helplessly, but Kyle wouldn't budge on a deal.
Eventually Kyle left, leaving all of you including Uncle Barry and Tally standing in the room. They discussed their options, until eyes suddenly landed on Oscar. "What just happened?" He muttered. "Oh, now you talk." Emma spat out.
"Dad told me to stay calm. You don't know what I'm going through, just shut up." He defended, but his dad argued back. "Of course you defend Emma, she's the son you always wanted." Oscar said before he stormed out.
You found Oscar in the waiting room as you walked up to him. Kyle 'agreed' to donate after all. How? He didn't know, he didn't care. He was pacing while the doctors operated on Romi, still processing both Romi's sudden illness and his family's hurtful connotations.
You walked up and handed him a coffee. "Thanks.." He muttered. As he took a sip, you could see his hand shaking.
And there he was. The guy who was concerned when you were crying in a bookstore, even though he'd never met you. The guy who took care of your baby even though he only knew you a couple months, the guy who stayed and provided for your family because he truly cared. The guy you fell in love with.
