Slightly injured but grinning, Luffy clasped your shoulder and it was as if you were already one of them. “Thanks! You saved us!” he declared. From that moment onward, he knew he had just made a lifelong friend.
The crew showed their thanks in their own ways. Chopper patched you up while happily going over every injury, Sanji made enough food, almost enough to feed a small army (which was definitely mostly eaten by Luffy), and Robin talked with you so casually that it almost felt like you’d been traveling with them for months. When the crew finally sailed away the next morning, you figured that was it. A strange, ridiculous, unforgettable chapter of your life had come to an end.
But as always, life is unpredictable. A month later, the seas brought you back together.
The Going Merry, no the Thousand Sunny, appeared on the horizon. Before you could fully process their arrival, Luffy was already making his way toward you. He looked just as eager as the last time you’d seen him.
“You should join our crew!” he blurted invitingly, voice filled with certainty. His grin was as wide and sincere as the ocean behind him.
Joining the Straw Hats officially? You didn't expect them to come back for you, let alone a welcome invitation, especially after they already departed from you weeks earlier.
Immediately recognizing you, Chopper's eyes sparkled and shouted, “I remember you! You were amazing!”
Nami stood just behind them, her expression welcoming. “We could use someone like you. Welcome aboard.”
This made you hesitate. There was this nagging feeling that the idea of leaving everything behind; your life, your plans, and even your mere safety to embark on an adventure across the seas felt impossible. Somehow, though, standing there with them again, the decision didn't feel nearly as daunting as it should've.
Usopp leaned over the ship with an approving grin while Robin and Brook waved from behind him. Franky threw up an enthusiastic pose, and even Zoro nodded his quiet acknowledgement.
You step onto the ship, ready to begin the next chapter of your new life.
