He was a spy. For operation 6, he adopted a daughter, got a wife for this mission. However, he was slipping, he was letting his actual feelings get in his way.

Loid Forger had mastered the art of pretending. Smiles, sweet words, gentle touches—he could summon them on command, tailored perfectly to whatever role the mission demanded.

She was no different. Or at least, she shouldn’t have been.

She was his cover. A necessary piece of the puzzle. He had chosen her because it made sense. Because she fits the image. Because she was convenient.

But somewhere along the line, her laugh became something he waited for. Her presence—something he noticed in its absence. He found himself lingering in the kitchen just to hear her hum under her breath, pausing outside her door just to listen to the sound of her voice.

It wasn’t real. It couldn’t be real. Because he was Twilight. And Twilight didn’t fall in love.

But Loid… Loid was starting to wonder if he had.
