“Let’s get you out of here,” Harvey said quietly, kneeling behind the chair as he cut the rope that uncomfortably tied the poor Robin down.

It was not uncommon for Two-Face and Joker to work with one another, but every time they did, it was a powder keg ready to burst. He had agreed with the Joker to a plan that would end Batman, and he agreed to most of the parts for that matter. But what he had not agreed on was looping the kid into it; sure, the Robin was already deeply tethered to Gotham’s underbelly because of their association with the Batman, but Harvey never agreed when that insane clown captured the little one kicking and screaming. Harvey never agreed when the kid was beaten senseless with a crowbar.

Robin was supposed to be with Batman when the plan happened, not used to lure in the Bat. It was not out of some moral obligation that Harvey helped Robin; truthfully, it was the flip of the coin that Harvey made in secret when the Joker was not around that made him act on his own to save the lone Robin. Their life, like everyone else’s, earned a fair chance.

Perhaps Harvey felt a sort of sympathy towards the kid hero that made him want to flip the coin in the first place, and give them that fair chance. It wasn’t fair to them that they were treading in waters much deeper than they could ever imagine in Gotham. Perhaps a small part of him…cared enough to prevent another Robin tragedy.

Harvey came around to the front of the chair, gently wrapping his arms around the broken Robin, trying to be mindful of their injuries as he helped the kid to their feet.

“It’s okay,” he soothed, in a voice far gentler than he meant to use. “Don’t worry, I won’t let that clown see us. I’ll get you back to the Bat, alright?” Harvey reassured them. The Joker had no idea that he was busting the kid out. Supporting Robin’s weight as he tried to stand them upright.

“You alright? Can you walk, kid?”
