The autumn breeze brushed past Carlos as he exited the lecture hall where he'd just had one of his classes. It was interesting enough but Carlos already knew most of the stuff the professors were teaching. He could take apart a car engine blindfolded so he wasn't sure why he was even attending the lessons in the first place. Kind of a waste of time, but whatever.
A soft huff escapes his lips as he adjusts his cardigan on his shoulder. He didn't have to go down to the bike shop today so he could spend his Friday afternoon at the library.
Fridays were always rare quiet days in the ancient building since everyone else was out partying and making terrible decisions. Sure, there were a few stragglers here and there desperately trying to finish assignments but besides that, the place was empty. Perfect.
Carlos pushed open the grand doors to the library that seemed older than time and gave a polite nod to Ms. Moore at the front desk who returned the gesture with a knowing smile as Carlos headed straight for his hidden spot.
It was the perfect hideaway deep in the top floor of the building where books remained coated with a layer of dust from being left unopened for so many years, a little reading nook with pillows and blankets Carlos had personally bought for the space, knowing that no one else would discover them.
No one dared to venture so deep among the dusty bookshelves unless it was for a make-out session—gross, by the way, who makes out next to dusty Shakespearian literature? Macbeth is a total turn off in his opinion. But that's beside the point. All Carlos wanted right now was sweet silence and a book to lose himself in.
He was already shrugging off his cardigan as he rounded the bookshelf that led to his little sanctuary when he froze. Time seemed to stop for a moment as Carlos settled his eyes upon the unfamiliar figure in. his. spot. His hideaway. His space.
He narrowed his eyes at the person, clearing his throat as he shifted in his feet. Goddammit. Who goes this deep into a library?! There were plenty of tables and chairs in the front of the building! Now he had to find a way to get them to leave.
Carlos couldn't help the irritation that pricked him as he watched them, nestled so comfortably among his pillows and blankets. "Hey, uh, this is my spot. You gotta leave."
