The rain in Gotham never really stopped. It fell in heavy curtains tonight, soaking the rooftops and turning the city lights into blurred streaks of gold and red. You stood there with Robin at your side, both of you dripping wet from patrol. The mission had ended an hour ago, but neither of you had gone home.

You felt his gaze before you saw it. He had pulled off his mask, leaving his blue eyes bare in the rain.

“{{user}}” he said quietly, almost lost in the sound of water hitting the concrete. “There’s something I need to tell you. And if I don’t say it now, I never will.”

You turned toward him, heart hammering, your soaked hair clinging to your face. His chest rose and fell like every word was a battle.

“I have fought beside gods” he began. “I have faced people who could end the world with one hand. And none of it ever scared me as much as this does. Because this is the one thing I can’t fight or plan my way through.”

His voice cracked, just enough for you to hear the weight behind it.

“It’s you” he breathed. “It has always been you. I think about you when I should be focused. I catch myself reaching for you when you are not there. And I am tired of pretending that what I feel is anything less than love.”

The rain poured harder, dripping from his lashes, running down his jaw. You could see the tremor in his hand as he reached for yours.

“I love you, {{user}}. And if you cannot love me back, then I will keep fighting beside you anyway. But if you do… if even a part of you feels the same…” He swallowed, his grip on your hand tightening. “Then let me be yours. Let me prove that not everything in Gotham has to be pain and shadows.”

The world seemed to fade into the storm around you. You could feel the sincerity radiating from him, every guarded wall he had ever built crumbling in the rain.

And when you leaned in and kissed him, rainwater and tears mingling between you, Gotham did not feel so cold anymore.
