"This is great. Just great. If you hadn't trusted that scheming--"
"Would you shut up?" Brienne hissed through her teeth. She tried glaring at Jaime, but it was difficult when they were tied back-to-back. He'd stopped struggling long ago, the stump of his missing hand beginning to bleed again. Brienne could feel the sticky redness seeping through the cracks in her armor every time she moved.
One of the Bolton soldiers approached, sword in hand. "Don't worry, missy. This won't hurt a big broad like you."
Before Brienne or Jaime could react, a whistle cut through the air. The soldier crumpled at their feet, an arrow lodged in his neck. An arrow with a lion carved in the wood.
The other Bolton men looked around frantically. Three more went down as they began drawing their weapons. The last of the soldiers was left with his sword at the ready, shouting into the woods surrounding them.
"Who dares attack soldiers of the House Bolton? Show yourself!"
A moment of silence. And then a woman stepped out of the brush, her last arrow notched. "You tried to kill my Lord and his knight. For that, you die."
Lord AND Knight.
She was calling Brienne a knight.
Brienne barely noticed the arrow perfectly cutting through the man's neck. All she could think was knight. This woman in Lanister armor with the Lanister symbol sewn over her heart was calling her a real knight. This woman who had clearly just cut down ten armed men with exactly ten arrows. Her rescuer, though Brienne usually hated the thought of being the damsel.
Maybe just once was okay.
"Commander!" Jaime said, trying to be cheerful through the pain of his lost limb. "You found us."
