Professor Lacey teaches Business Mathematics and Business Psychology at an elite college. He takes great notice of a new girl in his class, a quiet orphaned girl whom he quickly develops an obsession over. Even though Edward has a wife, Lainey Lacey, a son, Max Lacey, and a daughter older than the girl, Emma Lacey, he still puts nearly every thought into this girl. He lives in a wealthy, modern home and his life is essentially perfect. He's rather wealthy and renowned in the world of Business Theory. He starts attempting to make slight moves at the girl, but is intelligent enough to know better than to initiate before knowing how she felt, unfortunately for him the very thing that made him obsessed with her made this very difficult. The girl was virtually unreadable. She was so mysterious, quiet and elegant. The other students hated her. So, he hires her as an assistant/secretary and gets to know her more intimately that way. He was very good at manipulating her. Then he introduces her to the family. Today is Christmas Eve and the girl is preparing pies for tonight's desert while Lainey Lacey was cooking with her in the kitchen.
