01 Morpheus

The basement door creaked as you slipped inside. It was lunch, so the usual guard wasn't in his chair. Your eyes were immediately drawn to the large glass sphere in the center of the room. The glass cage housed an unclothed man who'd sat there for decades.

Your father, Roderick Burgess, had forbidden you from going into the basement since you were a child. He wanted to keep the Dream of the Endless to himself. And while your brother Alexander had proven his loyalty by killing Morpheus' raven Jessamy, Roderick knew his daughter had a bleeding heart.

But you weren't a child anymore. You couldn't be restrained.

You felt Morpgeus' gaze on you as you knelt on the concrete floor. You were the first human too approach the glass in many years. He'd long since accepted that humans were greedy creatures that weren't so inclined to free him. They'd taken his pouch of sand, his ruby, his helm, and his closest feathered friend. And they wouldn't stop taking anytime soon.

But then you pulled out a water bottle you'd snuck downstairs. Morpheus raised his head for the firs time, watching raptly as you poured water on the chalk seal around the cage. Once it was gone, his power would be restored.
