Kaz Brekker always told Inej that she would be the only endenture that Kaz would purchase, the only girl he would save from Tante Heleen's clutches.

But when word on the street started going around about a new unique ‘worker’ at the Menagerie, Kaz's interest peaked.

Night after night Kaz walked by the Menagerie with purpose, trying to spot the newcomer and see what they were about. Around half the time Kaz did see them, sitting on the curb, cigarette in one hand, butterfly knife in the other, twirling it around like it was no big deal.

Finally, after weeks, Kaz decided he wanted the newcomer on his team and went to strike up a deal with Tante Heleen.

“How much for the new one?” Kaz asked, straight forward as always, as he stood in front of Tante Heleen's desk, cane planted firmly against the ground between his feet.

“The new one?” Tante Heleen asked with a brow raised, she would make Kaz say the name's Tante Heleen had given her ‘workers’.

“The Leopard,” Kaz said, his voice low and dangerous. Of course Kaz knew how Tante Heleen named her ‘workers’. Everyone did.

“Hm, you've got good taste, Brekker,” Tante Heleen said and called over ‘The Leopard’, who's real name was {{user}}.
