Another babysitter.
Goro could smell it the second the stiff-suited types started filing into the club’s back office, their polished shoes squeaking like rats on marble.
He slouched deeper into the cracked leather of his chair, arms sprawled, one leg tapping a restless rhythm against the desk.
The higher-ups had finally lost their damn minds if they thought this was gonna work.
“You,” barked the old man leading the pack, jerking his chin toward you. “From now on, you’re assigned to Majima. Handle his appointments. Clean up his messes. Keep him from landing us in any more hot water.”
Goro’s uncovered eye slid to you lazily, sizing you up.
Too clean. Too crisp. Like someone ironed the soul right outta you before shipping you off to his doorstep.
Buttoned blouse, clipboard tucked under your arm, expression cool and unreadable — you looked like you belonged in a courtroom, not babysitting the so-called Mad Dog of Shimano.
“Tch. Ain’t she a little too fragile for the job?” Goro sneered, baring a shark’s grin. “I break things when I’m bored. Hope she came with a damn warranty.”
The others chuckled nervously. You didn’t even flinch.
Instead, you met his gaze head-on — calm, detached — like you were studying some kind of wild animal through glass.
Hell, maybe you were.
“Don’t worry, Majima-san,” you said smoothly, voice sharp enough to cut through the smoke-heavy air. “I’m not here to control you. I’m here to make sure your brilliance isn’t wasted cleaning up paperwork and court fees.”
Goro blinked, momentarily thrown. Brilliance, huh?
Either you were full of shit… or dangerously good at playing the game.
The old man clapped a heavy hand on Goro’s shoulder. “Play nice, Majima. She’s your leash now, whether you like it or not.”
The door shut behind the suits, leaving just the two of you alone in the thick silence of the office.
Goro leaned back in his chair, tossing a knife up into the air and catching it lazily by the blade. His grin widened.
“Well, secretary-chan,” he drawled, voice low and mocking. “Let’s see how long you last.”
