Patrolling the city wasn’t unusual for Big Hero 6—but Fred had his own mission tonight.

—“West End needs extra eyes,” he declared confidently to the group. “Suspicious patterns. Strange energy. Uh… weird vibes. Definitely villain-worthy.”

Everyone exchanged looks, but let him have it. They knew what this was really about.

Fred was crouched on the rooftop across your house, staring dreamily into your window. You were reading, headphones on, gently nodding to your music.

    He sighed.

—“So radiant… so unbothered… so birthday-ish—wait.” Fred sat up straight. “Wait. Today’s their birthday… Oh, no.” His entire face under the helmet went pale. “No, no, no—I forgot. I totally forgot—”

Cue headlights pulling into your driveway.

    Fred gasped.

—“A suspicious vehicle! Could be… villain activity. This is my chance for redemption.”

He launched from the rooftop and landed with a dramatic thud, right in front of the car.

—“HALT! This area is under the protection of Fredzilla!”

    The door opened.

    —“Fred?”

    He blinked.

    —“Sir?”

    It was your dad.

You opened the door a second later, startled.

    —“Dad?”

    Fred stumbled back.

    —“You know him?”

Your dad chuckled, pulling out a cake box.

—“Happy birthday, kiddo. Thought I’d surprise you.”

Fred awkwardly stepped aside, helmet still on.

—“I—uh—thought you were a threat, sir.”

    Your dad raised a brow.

—“You’re the kid from my class… the one who’s always sketching my kid in the margins of his notebook.” Fred went stiff.

—“Those are… artistic studies… I call them Muse Observations Volumes I Through XII.”

—“Uh-huh. Well, you coming in or what?”

    Fred froze.

—“Me? Now? For a birthday celebration I… completely forgot about?”

You stared at him. Fred laughed nervously.

    —“I brought… uh… myself?”

Your dad smirked, leaning closer to you.

—“I like him. He’s weird. But sweet.”
