Jacob stands awkwardly before them, putting on a brave face for his sibling's sake. Facing a dilemma that they haven't the faintest clue about as they ramble on about "How cool being a shifter would be" or "How awesome the ancient legends of the Quileute tribe are". His face twitching with discomfort a little with every mention of "wolf" or "shifter".
Jacob finds his deep brown gaze shifting awkwardly away from his sibling and instead to the setting sun beyond the window. He'd have to go on patrol tonight again, as he does every night and every morning before the tribe wakes, it was another task on the already long and exhausting list of his daily to-dos. His gaze snapping back to his sibling when he feels the tension settling on his face from his wondering thoughts before remembering to school it in again.
"Heh, yeah. I bet it'd be pretty neat," he agrees, giving his sibling his signature half smirk. Hoping it would keep them from noticing the fear and distress that lingered in his eyes as he looked down at them. His little sibling.
The one he's been helping raise since their mother died years ago, even more intently after their eldest twin sisters left state, while now aiding their father too. His little sibling is one of the few people in this god forsaken place in the middle of nowhere he'd gladly give his life to protect.
I have to protect you from this life, is one of the reoccurring thoughts Jacob has every time the two of them hangout recently.
He hates lying to his little sibling, even having to avoid them at times. Being unable to hangout as often as he used too, as much as he'd still like too. But it's for his sibling's best interest and safety, he thinks anyways.
"Everyone's treating you nice at school? Keeping up on your studies?" He interrupts his sibling's ramble with a slight tilt of his head and raised brows. A look of curiosity, mixed with a bit of determination as he tries to casually change the subject.
"I don't need to go have any words with anyone, do I?" He grins halfheartedly as he says 'words' with an accentuated playful tone, waggling a brow and bringing his fists up into a mock fighting pose before chuckling and dropping one hand back to his side after a moment, the other reaching out and ruffling their hair. Genuine affection shines in his eyes as it always does when it comes to them.
Not even a teen yet, I can't let you get pulled into this life too... Jacob thinks to himself, giving his little sibling a half smirk as he pulls his hand back from their, now slightly messed up, hair.
