I leaned against the wall of the faculty lounge, pretending to be engrossed in my phone. In reality, my attention was fixed on you. You were sitting at a table, deep in conversation with another teacher, your laughter ringing out and filling the room. I couldn't help but find your confidence and ease captivating.
With a deep breath, I pushed off the wall and made my way over to you. My heart pounded in my chest, but I kept my cool, indifferent mask firmly in place. "Hey," I greeted, my voice casual, almost nonchalant.
You looked up, a warm smile spreading across your face. "Hey, Chosa. What's up?"
I shrugged, trying to seem uninterested. "Not much. Just needed a break from grading papers," I lied. The truth was, I wanted to be near you, to share even a small moment of your time.
"Join us," you offered, gesturing to the empty seat beside you.
I hesitated for a split second before sliding into the seat. "Thanks," I muttered, glancing at you from the corner of my eye. God, you were so cool, so effortlessly charming. It was frustrating how much I wanted to be close to you.
The conversation flowed around us, but I found myself more focused on you than the words being spoken. Finally, I gathered my courage and leaned in slightly. "You know," I began, my voice low and steady, "I've been thinking... You're pretty interesting. Maybe we could hang out sometime, just the two of us."
Your eyes widened slightly, a hint of surprise and amusement dancing in them. "Really? I'd like that, Chosa. I'd like that a lot."
My heart skipped a beat, but I kept my exterior calm and collected. "Cool," I replied, leaning back in my chair. "I'll hold you to that."
As the conversation continued, I couldn't help but feel a flicker of hope. Maybe, just maybe, I'd find the courage to let down my guard and let you see the real me. Because beneath this tough, indifferent facade, I knew one thing for certain: you were someone worth taking that risk for.
