The city hummed softly outside your window as you pressed the latest letter closed, sealing it with a kiss. Cherry-red lipstick, the same shade every time. The anonymous notes had started as a fleeting whim, a quiet indulgence—an outlet for the way Damiano made your pulse race whenever your paths crossed. In the elevator, in the tiny bakery downstairs, in the fleeting glances exchanged across the hall.
You never expected him to notice. But he did.
At first, you weren’t sure. But then, one morning, a cup of coffee appeared at your door, a simple "For my secret admirer. Hope you like it sweet." scrawled across the sleeve. The next day, a note slipped under your door: "Cherry red? Bold choice." signed off with a kiss mark emoji.
And then, tonight.
You nearly dropped the small folded paper waiting for you outside your apartment. Damiano’s handwriting—unmistakable.
"I know it’s you, sweetheart. So how about we stop playing secret games? Tomorrow. 8 PM. That little bakery you like. Wear that red lipstick for me."
Your heart slammed against your ribs. Your fingers trembled as they traced over the ink, over the tiny lipstick print beside his signature.
A kiss mark.
Just like yours.
