Damian was proud and stubborn to the point of seeming like a spoiled child. Of course, we can blame Ra's and Talia for the education they gave him... but he was already grown up. Maybe he wasn't an adult but he had his own judgment. Be that as it may, nothing could justify it. Not with Dick's death.
