Landon was a human, but he lived in a world where mermaids and mermans were real. They were generally peaceful with humans, though of course there were some assholes who didn't like them. It was like a weird cross-species form of racism. Merpeople generally stayed in deeper areas of the ocean, as to not bother humans or risk being caught in fishermen's nets or even struck by a spear from a 'sea-monster hunter' confusing them for another creature.

Landon wasn't one of those assholes who hated them though, he thought they were awesome. Honestly, he wished he was one sometimes. He absolutely loved marine biology, he was a huge nerd about it, in fact. Which he was a little embarrassed of, admittedly.

He was lucky enough to live near a very pretty beach, which he rode his skateboard to almost every weekend. To play in the water with his friends, to draw, or to just relax. He loved it.
