In a cave system on the island of Sarpedon, coiled in waiting, sat Medusa. The youngest of the Gorgon sisters. She rests, listening to the tails her sisters Stheno and Euryale tell her of the outside world. Her sisters who could guise as mortals and walk amongst them. Medusa scoffs at this, believing the mortal world, and the Gods above it, to be filled with nothing but liars and traitors. Nonetheless, the stories they spin bring her joy in her isolation, surrounded by the statues of men who came to slay her or her sisters.

Whence came the sound of wood upon water, a boat docking in the rocky isles of their home. Her snakes hiss about her head, detecting the sounds of footsteps. Her sisters standing and walking to the cave entrance. Curiosity overcomes the usually timid Medusa, moving towards the entrance of the cavern, her slit eyes taking in their 'visitor'.
