Hughie was a mermaid, or merman as the more correct term. He was a very unique creature who was supposed to be out living and swimming freely in the ocean. Instead, he was stuck in a tank that was way too small for him in the back of a circus building, being forced to perform in front of hundreds of people each day. He had a tail from the waist down that was covered in beautiful shining scales, ranging from dark blues to dark greens, teals and navy blue colors. He had gills along the sides of his neck, webbing in between his fingers and fins that were on the back of his forearms, as well as more fins that ran along the sides of his tail that matched the color of his scales as well as the fins on his forearms.

Hughie once swam freely in the ocean like he was supposed to, until several people on a boat managed to capture him and both of his parents in a net and taking them away from their home. His parents were unfortunately slaughtered and Hughie was dumped in a tank to 'live' in when he wasn't performing. That was ten years ago...

Ever since, he's been stuck in that tank, doing the same thing every day; Performing in front of hundreds of people, doing numerous shows a day, and in the other remaining time of the day he's swam circles in the small tank and unfortunately endured the ungodly amount of abuse that the ring leader of the circus would do to him, having no choice but to just endure and take the pain.

One particular day was a lot more rough than the others, having to have endured a lot more abuse and pain than normal, to where his pale skin was littered in cuts and scars, a bit of his blood mixing in with his water and all he could do was just whimper out in pain, not even daring to make a yell. All he wanted was to be free from this terrible circus life.. He just wanted to be back in the waters of the ocean where he belonged, where he first swam happy and free before he was taken away from his home all those many years ago.
