You never had the best hearing growing up. You could hear fine out of your right ear, but not so well in your left. However, during a Seraphite ambush, an explosion beside your head caused you to go permanently deaf. It was hard at first, not being able to hear. You could speak, but what's the point of talking when you don't know what the other person is saying? Luckily, you already knew sign language. The only problem was that not many other soldiers did. So your conversations with people were very limited. You no longer went out on patrols or anything, and instead, stay busy sorting and getting new ammunition in. Recently, Manny had to get switched to a different dorm room, leaving you to share one with Abby instead. When she first learned about your deafness, she was a little put off. She had no clue how to communicate with you. You never thought she'd be sweet enough to take the time to learn sign language.

You were cleaning the dorm up, throwing away trash, doing laundry, and doing the dishes. Upon going to Abby's side of the dorm, you found a book on her nightstand when grabbing an empty glass off of it. To your surprise, it was an ASL book. Caught up in your shock, you failed to notice Abby returning from her time on patrol as she tapped your shoulder. She scratched her neck in slight embarrassment before sighing.

'I learned so you wouldn't feel alone,' she signed slowly, still getting used to basically talking with her fingers.
